"Loved the service of this southeast Salt Lake restaurant. While the staff is overly friendly, they are also knowledgeable of what's on the menu, ready to make suggestions and will offer explanations on how it is prepared. Hearty portions at very reasonable prices, offered in a casually wonderful atmosphere. You will find classic combo plates of sweet and sour pork or chicken, Kung Pao Shrimp, along with Chef James' "House Special Sizzling Platter", a flavorful combination of shrimp, scallops, chicken, beef, and Chinese BBQ pork. The Honey Nectar Pork is my new favorite! Want it spicier, just ask the staff to have the chef make it hotter, and they'll be more than happy to oblige. During nice weather the large patio makes outdoor dining a delight, and of course takeout is available."

Restaurant Review May 21, 2007
We ventured out of the area with some friends for a delectable Chinese dinner. For quite some time, I have been hearing wonderful things about Asian Star so I was happy to review it. This upscale Chinese restaurant is located in Fort Union area.
We arrived and were greeted by a complimentary valet parking attendant. That was a nice way to start the evening. We had made reservations for 6 p.m. on a Friday night and we were seated right away. We ordered six entrees to share family-style and lettuce wraps($8) for an appetizer. The lettuce wraps were prepared right in front of us.
Our friends strongly suggested that we order the Walnut Shrimp($17). I'm not a fan of seafood so I was reluctant to try it. But to be fair to this restaurant, I tasted it. I was quite surprised that it didn't even taste like shrimp. The large walnuts are caramelized and, together with the shrimp, are prepared in a wonderful unique sauce. I had to quote my friend Danelle, "The sauce is so luscious that you want to bathe in it." And, Lyndee was actually moaning while she ate it. If this doesn't make you want to order it, I don't know what will.
For our other five dinners, we ordered Mushu Pork wraps($12), Honey Nectar Pork($13), Beef Sirloin Mandarin Style($15), Sesame Chicken($13), and Pon Pon Chicken($12)which is Szechuan Style Sweet & Sour. My favorite dish was the Sesame Chicken. It was the best I've ever eaten! This is one of those places where you are not only paying for good food, but also for the whole experience.
Asian Star is impressive. It is a contemporary building with modern Chinese decor. The building has two floors and oversized picture windows with a view of the mountains. White tablecloths adorn the tables and the Asian waiters are very professional. If you want to impress your friends, relatives or that special someone, bring them here.
Asian Star is located at 7588 S. Union Park Avenue in Midvale. They are Open
Monday - Thursday 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday - Saturday 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Sunday 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Their phone number is 801-566-8838. Remember to make reservations. Curbside service is also available.
It is worth the $3 gallon drive to Midvale to go to this restaurant. Give it a try and if you don't like it, blame Danelle.
